Outline of the Master's Program in Service Engineering

In the University of Tsukuba, we have the world's first degree program for "Master of Engineering in Service Science." The concept and design of this program is based on our empirical researches by our faculty.

Our empirical research, Okada(2010), has shown that planning and development of successful services in Japan is similar to the Target Costing way in Japanese manufacturing firms. Okada(2010) offers a systematic treatment comprising four areas: (1) Science of Effectiveness, (2) Science of Efficiency, (3) Art of Integration, and (4) Ongoing Evolution after Opening.

In our program based on such academic discoveries, we develop high-level professionals capable of "Imagine The Future" by realizing the benefits of application of basic theory and systematic development of new and/or better services. We envision the education of our students through cooperative works with Japanese service organizations, while contributing to regional development and generating advances in technology and pure theoretical research.

For the intensive cooperation with Japanese service organizations in our program, this program requires native fluency in Japanese.
