Goals of Education and Characteristics of Education Planning at CPPS

In order to meet the needs of the times and social demand for suitable collage education and lead further development of College of Policy and Planning Sciences, we organize and provide specific educational curriculum under the goals of education as the following:

Goals of Education

  1. (1) We develop human resources with a thinking ability integrating arts and sciences, needed for engineering, practical, and strategic analyses of various social problems, where human behaviors are intricately intertwined, and the skills to design systems for comprehensive problem-solving.
  2. (2) We have three majors in Social and Economic Sciences, Management Science and Engineering, and Urban and Regional Planning. Due to this organization, students can study social systems on the three aspects.
  3. 1) At the major in Social and Economic Sciences, students are trained for capable persons who can mathematically and metrically investigate to find social and economic problems and contrive appropriate policies to solve them.
  4. 2) At the major in Management Science and Engineering, in these times when quantitative understanding present state and decision making are required in firms, students are trained for capable persons who have basic knowledge to readily meet the change and can investigate, judge and solve problems.
  5. 3) At the major in Urban and Regional Planning, students are trained for capable persons who can apply various Policy-and-Planning-Scientific methods to practical problems in urban and regional areas, and search for solution.

Characteristics of Education Planning

  1. (1) The first-year students can take not only substantial foundational courses but also major ones to attain mixed studying of basis and application.
  2. (2) From the fall semester of the second year, students belong to one of the three majors, and take major subjects to study issues in each specialized field.
  3. (3) To show the structure of each specialized field in an easy-to-understand manner, we divide major subjects in each major into groups of courses called “areas”, and encourage students to acquire interdisciplinary skills.
  4. (4) Students can apply an internship system which students have experiences in the real world, and an early graduation system which excellent students can complete the collage course for three years.
  5. (5) Highly practical education is provided due to faculty’s various specialized fields such as engineering, economics, management, statistics, psychology, and sociology, and business experiences of approximately 45% of them.

We do assure students and society that Collage of Policy and Planning Sciences, University of Tsukuba retain and accomplish the above specific goals of education.
