Research projects  Professor Masaki FUJIKAWA is an urban and architectural historian. He has been working on the study of composition of Japanese premodern citites (such as Kyoto and Edo) and houses (Daimyo's mansions and merchant's townshouses) based on the analysis of historical drawings and texts. He is also conducting the field surveys on traditional towns and houses in Japan and China with his graduate and undergraduate students.
Guidelines for advisees  Basically students pick up their topics of thesis according to their own interests. The topics mainly relate to the development process of historical city or conservation of historic cities. All the members of laboratory are required to participate in the investigation of traditional towns and houses.
